Grounding in Resilience on Election Day and Beyond

“What a moment we’re in — caught between peril on one side and possibility on the other…. Leadership in this moment could not matter more.”

Katharine Wilkinson on why we need climate leadership

It’s election day in the US.

At this moment, we don’t know the outcome of this election. What we do know is that it has been rife with pisspoor political leadership, has created even more divisive turbulence, and comes with dire consequences.

I want to take this moment to truly ground us—in Earth, in community, and in the shared purpose that binds me and you. As we move forward, I feel in my core a call for embodied action—actions that come from a place of integrity, resilience, and radical care for each other and the world we’re part of.

I feel so much conviction that each step forward needs to be a reflection of our deepest values and commitment to resilience rebuilding. As I do my own inner work with the concepts of hospicing people and organizations through our collective climate and social collapse, I know that regenerative resilience is a necessary, adaptive competency and skill set desperately needed in organizations and communities. We have been at breaking point, and all the data tells us we are headed to social and climate collapse without radical repurposing and reimagination paired with action.

So, on this day, I invite you to pause - to activate your transition to slow working. To engage any pre-election build-up of anxiety with an intentional shift into planning and action on rebuilding better, more regeneratively, and with reciprocity. It’s time to dream of those new possibilities. The actions we take now create our futures.

Grab a cup of tea and maybe a place outside or near a window so you can connect with the beauty of Nature in your area. As you imagine a month from now:

  • What values do you want your community and relationships to reflect?

  • What values do you want to live daily through the work that you offer the world (be this in your J-O-B or volunteering or writing or service)?

  • How do you want to bring into more alignment between these values and your actions?

  • How do you feel most supported in your community, and how can you offer that support to others?

  • When you consider our current circles, how well do they nurture a sense of collective resilience and care? How might you contribute more to this sense of belonging?

  • What are you doing to cultivate resilience in your body and mind to face the climate and social challenges around you?

Building resilience matters because it is the foundation that enables each of us, individually and collectively, to navigate uncertainty, manage stress, and make embodied decisions in the face of constant change. The right kind of resilience - the regenerative kind - empowers you to stay adaptable, keep others around you engaged, and maintain a sense of purpose even during turbulent times.

These are times for creative embodied action! See you on the other side of this election…

Be well, friend.
